The Mommy & Baby Connection IS REAL
Share
As a dad, I'm sure you've experienced a little doubt and maybe some loneliness during the early stages of your little one - maybe even frustration? I know I have.
As a father, it's completely normal to feel a bit left out when it comes to the strong bond between a mother and her baby. After all, the mother has gone through so many changes over the past 9-12 months - physically, hormonally, and emotionally. And once the baby arrives, it's natural for them to gravitate towards the mother, guided by their own set of instincts and emotions.
Here's a few things I learned along the way to help with this process and if you know another dad, send them their way - it might help...
Supporting the Mother
While the baby may seem to only have eyes for the mother, as a father, your role is just as crucial. Beyond taking care of the baby's physical needs, it's important to remember to support the mother during this time of transition. Your partner needs your emotional support, understanding, and help more than ever.
Building Your Own Connection
Even though the mother and baby may share a special bond, there are plenty of opportunities for you to build your own connection with your little one. Spend quality time with the baby, engage in activities together, and create your own special rituals that strengthen your bond.
Sharing Responsibilities
Being there for the mother doesn't mean neglecting your responsibilities towards the baby. Take an active role in caring for your child - changing diapers, feeding, soothing, and playing. By sharing the workload, you not only support your partner but also strengthen your own bond with the baby.
Communicate Openly
Communication is key in any relationship, especially during the challenging and rewarding time of becoming parents. Talk openly with your partner about your feelings, concerns, and needs. By being honest and supportive, you can navigate this new chapter together as a team.
Remember, the mom and baby connection is powerful, but the dad's role is equally important in creating a loving and supportive environment for the entire family. Embrace your role, cherish the moments with your little one, and support each other every step of the way.
I've learned a few of these things in my first time as a father - and I hope you'll join me in reading some more articles I've put together, share with a father that might need to hear it and most importantly, mistakes will be made, YOU'RE ONLY HUMAN.
It's not about being perfect, it's about showing up.
